Connect a host
Run agents on another machine or server and control them from Zekoder Desktop.
A host is a machine that runs a daemon and your coding agents. Zekoder Desktop always has one host, your computer. You can add more.
When to add a host
- You want agents to run on a home server, a virtual machine, or a cloud instance.
- You want the work to keep running while your laptop is closed.
- You want to see the same agents from several computers.
Prepare the remote machine
- Install and sign in to the coding agents you want to use on that machine.
- Install Node.js 22 or newer, then install and start the daemon:
npm install -g @getpaseo/cli paseo
This daemon listens on port6767and keeps its data in~/.paseo. - When asked, choose whether to enable the encrypted relay. If you decline, connect over SSH, Tailscale, or another network you control.
Add the host in Zekoder Desktop
- Open Settings and select Add host.
- Pick a connection method:
Method Use it when Remote SSH You can sshto the machine. Zekoder uses your OpenSSH client and keys.Direct connection The machine is reachable on your local network or VPN. Paste pairing link You enabled the relay on the remote machine. - Fill in the address:
- Remote SSH: enter
ssh://user@host?daemonPort=6767in SSH host. - Direct connection: enter the host name and set Port to
6767. The form defaults to6777, the port of the Zekoder Desktop daemon.
- Remote SSH: enter
- If the daemon has a password, enter it.
The host appears in Settings under Host and in the sidebar's host filter. New workspaces ask which host to use.
Zekoder workflow on a remote host
The Issues, Reports, and Zekoder pages come from the Zekoder plugin, which runs on the host. When the active host does not have it, the sidebar shows This host lacks Zekoder. In this version, run the Zekoder workflow on your local host.
Keep your code private
Agents run on the host you choose and your code stays on that machine. The optional relay only carries end-to-end encrypted traffic between your devices.
